Red River, Ski Town of the Southwest
With a blanket of sparkling snow and blue skies overhead, Red River is a winter wonderland. Bundle up, grab your gear—or rent it here—and get ready for cool outdoor adventures. Red River Ski and Snowboard Area, located right in the center of town, is a short walk from most lodges. Cross-country skiers can explore miles of beautiful trails at the Enchanted Forest Cross Country Ski and Snowshoe Area just five minutes away. Snowshoeing is a great way to experience nature and good exercise to boot. If you’d rather ride, hop on a snowmobile to discover the scenic backcountry or cruise miles of groomed trails all the way up to 11,249-foot Greenie Peak. At nightfall on most Saturdays marvel at the ski area’s flaming torchlight parade, which can be seen from anywhere in town—but best seen from the Lift House.
Silverado. Goldrush. Lucky Strike. You’ll find a gold mine of great runs in this old mining town turned “Ski Town of the Southwest.” At Red River Ski and Snowboard Area the attitude is laid back, the people are friendly, and with an average of 18 feet of snow each year and plenty of sun, conditions are great. With our mixed terrain, ski-through replica of a mining camp, and terrain park, our mountain keeps skiers and boarders of all abilities entertained and challenged.
Just learning, or want to polish your skills? The professional instructors in our highly-respected ski school offer group and private lessons for skiers and snowboarders at all levels.
“It snowed last night in Red River!” Snowmaking has really changed in the last 33 years; Red River is still the snowmaking leader in the Southern Rockies. Come enjoy an old-style winter vacation the way it should be.
- Drew Judycki, Red River Ski Area owner and general manager
“For western skiing the way it used to be, head for Red River, where, besides snowmaking and some newfangled modernizing, not much has changed . . . . Only a classic Rocky Mountain ski area with foot after foot of fluff—and not an ounce of pretension.”
