Summer

We try not to brag too much about our summer temperatures. June temperatures range from the mid 70s to mid 50s. Enjoy t-shirts and shorts during the day. Wear pants and sweaters at night. July is our warmest month and can get into the mid-80s. The North American Monsoon season arrives in July and lasts through August. Extreme heat exists in many parts of New Mexico, Texas, and Oklahoma during summer. Up here in the mountains, extreme heat is a rarity.

Fall

Fall in Red River is magical. The air gets brisker. Visitors get more bundled up. The Aspen leaves in town and in nearby Carson National Forest are on bright displays of oranges, yellows, and reds. Fall is a special time of year in Red River.
October the temperatures average 50-55 F during the day and 30s F at night. The first snow usually falls in this month.
November, the average temperatures drop to 40s during the day and 20s at nights. The snowstorms are more likely to happen starting the second half of the month.

Winter

While some of our native animals hibernate during winter, our town remains as active as ever. With an average snowfall of 156.7 inches a year, Main Street looks like a scene from a Hallmark movie most of winter. In December, the average highs are between 25 F and 35 F and lows are between 10 F to 20 F. In January and February, the average highs are between 20F and 30F, and get as low as -10 F at night.

You can expect occasional snowstorms during the winter months, especially in February, our snowiest month.

Spring

Yes, it snows in March. For the most part though, it begins to warm up. Average highs are 45F and lows can get down to 0F.

April and May are the “mud” months in Red River. Daily temperatures warm up to 50s through 60s during the day, and 30s through 40s during the night. Occasional snowstorms are possible in April, and even May.
