Rafting
Tackling the rapids of the mighty Rio Grande, the refreshing, cool, clear waters splash over you and into your raft! Paddling wildly, you’re soaring through stretches like “The Rock Garden,” where the river plunges 90 feet in less than a mile.
Everyone in your group is grinning madly on this whitewater adventure. And you take a mental photograph because that’s all you have time for before the next class-four rapid. “What a way to spend the day,” you think. And you’re right. Adventures like these are some of the most thrilling in a lifetime.
What to bring
White water rafting in northern New Mexico depends on snowmelt for its thrills. This means a bikini may not be appropriate attire for a day of adventure. Many rafting companies will offer wetsuits at no extra charge. In warmer weather, lighter clothing can be acceptable. Here are some additional recommendations on what to bring for an enjoyable day on the water:
- Wetsuit or lighter clothing, depending on the weather (check with rafting company when booking)
- Old tennis shoes or secure sport sandals
- Baseball cap or visor
- Sunglasses
- Water bottle
- Waterproof, eco-friendly sunscreen
- Cash for tipping your guide
- Dry clothes for après rafting
And, of course, don't forget to bring a great attitude and be ready for plenty of fun!
