Snowmobiling
From the back of your snowmobile, it's a spectacular ride up through Sawmill Canyon to the 11,249-foot Greenie Peak. On the way down, you'll stop at an old mine originally used by 16th-century Spanish explorers. The winding trails, wide open meadows and jaw-dropping views make this a snowmobile tour for the books.
Red River caters to snowmobilers by providing miles of groomed trails all the way up Sawmill Canyon to the 11,249-foot Greenie Peak. The Valle Vidal is a 100,000-acre wildlife tract with a 50-mile loop from Sawmill Canyon.
The state of New Mexico requires a permit for all OHVs/snowmobiles. Save time by purchasing your permit in advance with the online licensing system. You will need to create a new account, then you are given the option to purchase your ATV permit. IMPORTANT: Add all of your vehicles to the permit application before you click “review application.” This will save you the $4.95 processing fee for each of your vehicles. Once you have completed the online purchase you will receive an email confirmation. Print out your confirmation, which will serve as your temporary permit.
